Walls
A masonry wall provides a homeowner with a structure that is second to none for durability and maintenance.
The client operates a bird sanctuary and gardens, with venues for events. For this project they wanted to create a new focal point so Imagine Brick built this wall which was then landscaped into the garden's flow.
The client operates a bird sanctuary and gardens, with venues for events. For this project Imagine Brick rebuilt this existing feature which was needing extensive repair.
This project was constructed in the downtown Charlotte First Ward section. The homeowners sought privacy in an urban environment. The new wall was constructed directly between two adjoining homeowners. The addition of larger openings in the wall allowed for air movement and a feeling of openness in the enclosed space.
The homeowners were looking to enhance their front entrance and add curb appeal to a plain yard that had a significant amount of slope. Upon completion the new construction distinguished the home from others.
What it was like before:
Multiple new masonry walls were constructed in order to enclose the property. Sections of the existing wall were removed and damaged portions replaced. Shaped brick column caps were reclaimed and used in the new construction. Areas that had settlement cracking due to the growth of trees that were close to the footing were reconstructed using steel lentils. With the new wall raised the growth of the trees was not an issue. Specialty colored black mortar was used for this project.
The existing retaining wall was failing. Imagine Brick removed the existing wall and footing. Working directly with the homeowner we complete a design that not only complemented the landscape but also was structurally sound. Extensive grading was done to redefine the space and stop any drainage problems. The wall and footing was constructed using steel rebar and the wall filled solid with mortar. Upon completion the homeowner was pleased with the design and had a structure that would last.
In this instance the homeowner wanted to replace a failing wall with one of a new design. North Carolina flagstone was used in a natural pattern set in mortar. Upon completion the outdoor space not only had a different look but was structurally sound.
This was a simple wall constructed as a trash can hide. In this instance the homeowners also obstructed the view of the power meter and utilities. The quoin corners were constructed to match those existing on the home.
Original brick coping around pool was removed and replaced with North Carolina flagstone in a natural pattern set in mortar. A new brick wall capped in North Carolina flagstone was constructed along with new privacy walls with entrance gates.
The homeowner had replaced the original wooden fence one too many times. Masonry columns were built to support the new wooden sections. The masonry columns will greatly strengthen the new privacy fence and will not have any need to be replaced in the future. The columns also make this homeowners' fence different from those around it.

This privacy wall and patio area was constructed in the First Ward area of Charlotte. The homeowner met with Imagine Brick prior to construction to discuss what options best suited their needs. Based on those conversations Imagine Brick designed the privacy wall and paver brick patio area. The design maximized the available space in this urban retreat.
This wall collapsed due to improper construction. The wall fell at night during a rainstorm, awaking the homeowners. Water had accumulated behind the wall with no place to escape. The debris was removed and materials set in place for construction. The wall was completed the following day. Note the weep holes for water drainage at the base of the new wall. These were also implemented in other walls on the same property to prevent damage before it could occur.
An original aluminum fence was damaged by a falling tree. The homeowner wanted to replace it with a wall matching other existing walls on the property. The area was rebuilt with brick to match the existing walls. The design of the existing walls vary with oversize and standard brick. Each were used to complete the construction and join the pre-existing two sections, completely enclosing the property.
This job is located in Charlotte's Historic district and was pre-approved before construction. There were many parts to this makeover. We constructed a drive with basket-weave pattern using tumble paver brick to mimic the older structures and architecture in the area. The original drive was gravel; we removed this and graded to allow a better incline and use of space. We repaired a damaged area at the entrance steps with stone. The stone was designed and cut to fit in pattern. We replaced an original wooden fence with a brick wall completely surrounding the property. The walkways provide an elegant private side garden in the space-challenged downtown propery. The walkways are accented by the fountains which were designed by the homeowner.
The existing retaining wall had settled and was detaching from the house. The new wall is bonded into the main structure which will give it the strength the old one lacked.
This wall needed repair after stopping a vehicle. Looks good now.
Here we created a privacy wall and entrance.
We needed to demolish and rebuild the existing retaining wall. The old wall was only a single 4" course thick and was suffering. The new wall was 8" and we used the old material as backing for the new fascia of the wall. This provided a much sturdier product with minimal additional material costs.
